Insurance for Food Delivery Drivers

Insurance for delivering food can be more expensive than a traditional personal auto policy, but there are reasons why you must pick the right coverage if you want to stay away from big bills. There are a few different options to choose from when picking auto insurance to cover your vehicle during your food deliveries.

Just having a car puts you at risk, and you must maintain minimum insurance in place, which in some states is required by law. Not abiding by these rules make you exposed to penalties, tickets, and even license suspensions.

A commercial policy is an option for food delivery drivers although it costs more than your personal policy. With this type of policy, you will be covered even if you are in an accident when on a delivery. The rates will be based on your vehicle, driving record, and demographics. Most personal auto insurance policies will not cover any accident or damage that occurs during business use, and you should always inform your insurance company about any business activities you run in your car, so they can give you a clear scope of coverage or lack of, should that be the case.

When you are using your personal vehicle for business, you must have it protected with a business policy if you perform any of the following activities:

  • Deliver food
  • Travel to far-off job sites
  • Haul equipment or work tools
  • Transport people
  • Make sales

If you are making those deliveries on behalf of an established food delivery company, you should explore how their own coverage protects you and whether or not you need more comprehensive protections. You should never assume that you learned how one of them covered you, and think the rest will cover you the same way. Following we highlight some differences:

Amazon Flex/AmazonFresh/Amazon Prime Now. Amazon covers its drivers with $1 million in liability insurance, $1 million in uninsured/underinsured motorists, and $50,000 for comprehensive and collision over what your personal policy covers.

Caviar. Caviar provides drivers with up to $1 million coverage per accident toward medical expenses, a $100,000 accidental death benefit, $100,000 in survivor's benefits, and a $500 weekly benefit for accidental disability.

DoorDash. DoorDash drivers have up to $1 million in liability coverage after your insurance has paid out.

Postmates. According to The Zebra, Postmates provides their drivers $1 million liability above their personal coverage.

UberEATS. Drivers working for UberEATS are provided $1 million in liability coverage, $100,000 per accident, and $25,000 for property damage.

Everyone Wants to Know When Will the Supply Shortages End?

When will the supply shortages end is a big question right now for everyone. Experts agree in that no one really knows when will it happen, but there are apparent reasons to believe that we will learn to live with it perhaps until 2022 or even longer.

Now that we know all those giant container ships got stuck in the wrong places causing scarcity and a much higher demand for shipping, the natural consequence to all of that is a skyrocketed cost of moving cargo.

If we all remember, everything was going so well on the customer side. We just needed to click, sit back and relax while the items you wanted, just the way you needed them arrive at your doorstep. We were so spoiled!

In the blink of an eye, we had to adjust our lives to a few options of protective gear available during the beginning of a pandemic. Added to the daily circumstances we faced at the supermarket or drugstore, were more important investments like new cars that you would now have to buy on the color or features that are available at the dealership (if you are lucky enough) because that would be better than not having a more reliable car at all.

Anything that is produced or manufactured is now in short supply

As an example, cars use computer chips and the shortages of chips have made it more difficult to produce vehicles. In turn, that has made it harder and more expensive to buy cars.

According to CNBC, the Covid-19 pandemic is not only having a seismic impact on global public health but also causing chaos for the economy, with supply chain disruptions and labor shortages a big problem for businesses around the world. Shifts that have taken place in the labor market are becoming more pronounced, with many people voluntarily quitting roles just as demand for workers rises as economies reopen. Sectors particularly affected by workers quitting their jobs were accommodation and food services, wholesale trade and state and local government education.

Warehouses and logistics managers are facing myriad of challenges, and every movement can be costly. That is why keeping your business assets well protected with adequate insurance solutions will give you the peace of mind you need to focus on putting together all the pieces of this difficult puzzle and find success at the very end.
